Casio EXILIM EX-Z750 Review at Cameratown.com

The Casio EX-Z750 is my favorite compact camera as of June, 2005. I bought one personally and carry it everywhere in my pocket. It has instantaneous operation, easy navigation through simple menus and has all sorts of clever features and excellent ease- and speed-of-use lacking in Nikon and Canon compacts. It has 7 megapixels, a 3 x zoom and full manual controls if you need them. It's super easy to use, and even gives usable images at ISO 400 unlike most other compacts. Image quality for static subjects at low ISO is the same as my Nikon D70 DSLR and quite unlike what you'd expect from a girlie-sized camera, as I'll show later in this review here.

The Casio EX-Z750 models joins such as the Canon SD500 and Sony DSC-P200 in one of the most fiercely competitive sectors of the market and offers by far the largest feature set in its class. It has a plethora of 'Best Shot' scene modes (30 in total), full photographic control, MPEG-4 movies, in-camera special effects and basic image editing and long battery life. Casio's newest digicam is a precision built imaging tool that absolutely radiates class. It reminds me of the iconic Rollei 35S and the sexy little Contax T2 film cameras. The Casio Exilim EX Z750 is a seven-megapixel digital camera that's small enough to be dropped in a shirt pocket and tough enough to go just about anywhere. It's very fast (across the board), has better battery life than the Energizer bunny, and is almost infinitely tweakable.

The Casio Exilim EX-Z750 ($440) is an ultra compact camera with a 7.2 Megapixel CCD, 3X optical zoom lens, large 2.5" LCD display, high quality movie mode, and much more. For better or for worse the market is suddenly becoming crowded with small, high resolution cameras like this: Canon, Nikon, and Sony all have similar models. Tiny and stylish, the Casio Exilim EX-Z750 is packed with features. But with its its 7.2-megapixel CCD and very fast shutter response it's also an impressive performer. Toss in full Manual exposure mode and its 31 preset scene modes (not to mention Auto) and there's little this subcompact can't do. The mix of features and good performance should appeal to both novices and more experienced photographers interested in a fun digital camera for snapshots.

You usually have to choose between two types of digital cameras: slim-line beauties with large LCD screens or bulky enthusiast cameras capable of heavy lifting. The Casio Exilim EX-Z750 scores a coup by integrating these two schools of camera design-or rather, squeezing the benefits of the latter into the tight-fitting pants of the former. The 7.2-megapixel Z750 is the impressive spiritual successor to the handsome Exilim EX-Z55, a camera with admirable looks but disappointing image quality and a dearth of manual features.

The Casio Exilim EX-Z750 exhibits a traditional aluminum camera body, casing a 3x optical zoom and 7.41 total megapixels on its 1/1.8-inch CCD. The width of the camera is a mere 0.9 inches, making it one of the slimmest digital cameras on the market. Although, the Z750 does lack the sexy look and appeal of the other Exilim models. With plenty of manual and automatic shooting settings, as well as several movie modes, the Z750 is a solid addition to the compact market. The 7.2 effective megapixel digital camera will be released in March 2005 for $449.99 worldwide.

I think I can safely say that anyone who wants a fast, pocket-sized, point-and-shoot digital will be happy with this camera. If you want the coolest, tiniest digital camera ever, the Exilim EX-Z750 may be too big - even though it fits in a pocket easily. If image quality is your top priority, you probably shouldn't be reading this review or considering compact digitals at all. I like it as a carry-everywhere compliment to my digital SLRs. Anyone who wants an actual pocket-sized compact with lots of features should be more than happy with the EZX-Z750.

The 7.2-megapixel Exilim EX-Z750 has all the strengths we're used to seeing from Casio cameras, like an effective menu structure and innovative video features. Overall, it's an easy-to-use ultracompact, but testing revealed a few picture-quality problems.

I'm becoming something of an expert on Casio's line of card cameras. I can't help myself; I just love 'em. And the company keeps cranking out new and improved models at an astonishing rate. Often a new model or two arrive on my desk the day I finish my last Casio review. Fortunately, the retail distribution channels work a little slower, so the models I review are usually still available when our magazine ships. But somebody is putting something in the water cooler at Casio's design department - these people obviously never sleep.
